Captain Afetse Komi was born and raised in Togo (West Africa), and left his country in search of a better life in the United States of America in March 2004 with nothing but hope, dream and Faith in the promises of this Great Nation.
After spending his first four months in America in U.S Immigration Custody, Captain Afetse went on to transcend difficult circumstances and built a positive & successful life in America.
He joined the Army Reserve as Motor Transport Operator in 2010 with the Rank of Private and became a naturalized U.S. citizen in 2011. In 2014, Afetse re-classed as Civil Affairs Specialist and deployed to Djibouti (Horn of Africa) between 2014 and 2015 in support Operation Enduring Freedom. He commissioned in 2015 as Second Lieutenant & appointed as Platoon Leader of a Transportation Company.
In his civilian capacity, Captain Afetse is Database Systems Engineer working for the Defense Information Systems Agency at the Pentagon. Captain Afetse is a Life Coach, an inspirational Speaker and Author of “Chasing My Dream: An African Immigrant Story in America.
Captain Komi Afetse’s remarkable life story going from earning minimum wage to six figures income, from not been able to spell his own name in English, from not having a college degree to a college graduate who achieved personal success is part of a bigger story that is “The American Dream Story”: a story of hard work, perseverance, resilience, determination and faith in the possibilities of this Great Nation we all call the Land of the Free and The Home of the Braves.
