February 26, 2019Maya Saenz is the Morning Anchor for KMTV 3 News Now. She first joined the CBS affiliate station in March 2016.
As a tenacious journalist, Maya has acquired extensive experience in a variety of media platforms. She’s worked a variety of positions in the media world in various cities, including El Paso, Texas, Denver, Colorado Springs, and Centennial in Colorado, and now Omaha, Nebraska.
Most recently, she worked at Telemundo Denver where she contributed to the extensive coverage of several national stories, including the Aurora Theater Shooting trial, the Longmont Craigslist attack, the Planned Parenthood shooting, and the booming marijuana industry.
Since Maya was six years old, she watched the news with hopes that one day she would be able to be on the other side of the screen, serving as a source of news for her community. For Maya, being a journalist is more than simply bringing viewers the news; it’s about meaningful storytelling and giving voice to the voiceless, and sorting through a story to find the deeper meaning.
As a bilingual and bicultural Mexican-American, Maya believes in selecting diverse stories as well as interviews and strives to tell the stories of populations that are frequently under-served in mainstream media.
Maya is passionate about serving her community and is heavily involved with several nonprofits and organizations in the metro.
Maya holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism and Communications from the University of Denver and is a member of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists.
